Interview with Gemma Ma on Characteristics of Cat Semi-Owners and Challenges in Australia’s Cat Welfare

Vicky Halls (Head of Unowned Cats) and Nathalie Dowgray (Head of ISFM, iCatCare’s Veterinary Division) interviewed Gemma Ma (RSPCA New South Wales, pictured), regarding her recently published research on ‘Characteristics of cat semi-owners’ (read it here).

These are people who care for unowned domestic cats but do not consider themselves to own these cats and are a potential target audience for human behaviour change interventions to improve cat welfare.

The fascinating interview touches on the challenges in Australia regarding the current consultation on the government’s ‘Threat Abatement Plan for predation by Feral Cats 2023’. Look out for it from December 22 on our veterinary podcast channel Chattering with ISFM, available to stream on all of your favourite podcast platforms!
