Sparky has now been transformed into a much more confident and friendly cat
The RSPCA is hoping to find a home for a nervous cat who has been in the charity’s care for nearly seven months.
The six-year-old black cat came into the care of RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Surrey in March this year after being rescued from a multi-cat home.
Sadly, poor Sparky was underweight, suffering from fleas and very scared of the staff and his new environment.
When he first came into the charity’s care he was extremely nervous and wouldn’t let any of the staff touch him – not even to take a treat.
He would hide away all day and didn’t want any interaction with people.
However, over time Sparky has really grown in confidence and has learnt to trust the staff at Millbrook even getting used to being stroked.
Claire Jones, cattery supervisor, said: “He was so scared when he first arrived with us, it’s taken a lot of time and patience to get him where he is now. When the staff members first saw a video of Sparky purring whilst getting some fuss, most of them were moved to tears. It’s amazing to see his transformation.
“He really enjoys being stroked now, when he is in the mood. This still has to be on his terms but he is much friendlier now. He will take chicken and treats from the staff and sometimes even enjoys being brushed.
“He is looking for a quiet home with no other pets and with really patient people, who will expect him to go back a few steps in terms of being shy but with loads of time and patience we think he’ll flourish and become a wonderful pet.”
Sparky would suit an adult-only home or families with older teenagers. He needs to live in a quiet area as little is known whether he has experience of going outside before he came into the charity’s care.
