Hi everyone,
Today we are going to take a look at Natusan the eco-friendly cat litter solution. As part of our review, we have also managed to bag you a 50% discount code on your first order of a 10L bag of cat litter! Simply use KATZEN50 to get the discount.
So what is Natusan made of?
“Natusan clumping litter is made from 100% PEFC-certified, recycled wood materials, a by-product of the timber industry meaning no additional trees are felled in the making. Not only is it 100% biodegradable, but it’s also highly absorbent and clumps each time your cat uses their tray.
To ensure Natusan’s very good clumping performance they add a small amount of another one of nature’s miracles: a natural hydrocolloid. This is a natural glue activated by moisture, making sure that the granules stick to each other when they get wet.”
How does it perform?
We are guessing that many of you have tried wood-based litter before and were less than impressed with it? We hear you as we too have been in the situation of trying wood-based litter but we can assure you that Natusan is VERY different in comparison. Once our masters of mischief used it we waited for a little to see what the clumping effect would be like and it did as promised by Natusan clump very neatly!
Also, one thing that is very important for us is that litter has to be safe for cats, some of the litters on the market that use fragrances can actually be harmful for your feline friends and in some cases cause skin irritation or upper respiratory diseases or in rare cases even cause allergies! However, with the lack of fragrances, we were a little suspicious whether or not Natusan would mask the smell of our especially smelly business cats (sorry Mactavish!) but we are pleased to report that it performed very well on this front as well and masked the smell very well thanks to locking the “presents” inside a solid layer of litter.
Natusan goes as far as stating that it’s 100% natural, tight-clumping cat litter that develops an absorptive power of up to seven times its own weight! When it comes into contact with liquid, it forms clumps that can be scooped out leaving only fresh litter behind. Not only does this mean less cleaning and no unpleasant smells, but it also means you are reducing the amount of litter you are using by 65%. Win-win!
Over the month we trialled it we felt that we used less cat litter than with our previous brand so it does seem to be more cost effective as well.
What to do with the litter afterward?
Ha now this is an interesting one! For those of you with a garden you can simply stick it into your composter with your usual green waste. Thanks to your cats this will make purrfect fertisilier once ready. 😉
And for those that don’t have this as an option the company behind the litter offers a unique Collect & Compost Service for London based cat owners!
With this service Natusan will deliver your litter together with biodegradable bags so that you can bag up your litter for a later collection. Even better they will work with their partners to plant a tree in London on your behalf for using this service.
Our over-all verdict
We love the fact this is finally an eco-friendly solution for the so important litter for our feline friends. If we could get more people to switch over to eco-friendly litter we would be able to reduce the carbon footprint of our masters of mischief because let’s face it many of us forget about their impact on our environment as highlighted through a recent study is quite high in comparison to some other pets.
And most importantly our masters of mischief chose the toilet with Natusan over the alternative toilet with our old brand in it during the trial so it must feel good under their paws as well!
And for those that HATE shoveling heavy litter… Natusan is super light at 330g-480g per litre instead of the usual 1kg per liter for betonite based clumping cat litter.
So what are you waiting for? Give them a try and get a 50% off on your first order of a 10L bag of cat litter! Simply use KATZEN50 to get the discount
Thanks,
Marc
Here in Germany we have several eco-friendly cat litters, one sort is with pellets, another just normal clumping litter. My cat prefers to do number in the pellets and number two in the other. Sometimes she does both in the pellets. We started with normal clumping litter, then slowly changed to the eco-clumping litter and then I mixed in pellets in one of the litter boxes and she has not looked back. She LOVES it.
