Welcoming a new four-legged friend into your home is an exciting prospect. We all want the best for our pets, so in anticipation of their arrival, it’s a good idea to take some simple steps to cat-proof your home. Even if you and your cat have lived harmoniously for many years, it’s a worthwhile taking a look round your house and considering ways you can make sure it’s as safe as possible for them.
First of all, it’s important that you hide any harmful foods and objects away from prying paws. This includes chocolate, raw eggs and grapes – even the smallest amount can cause problems for your kitty. It might seem obvious but similar to humans, cleaning supplies and electrical wires are hazardous to our pet companions and these should always be tidied away to discourage curious cats.
If you’re new to the world of cat ownership, it’s important that you make sure you’re prepared for when their both in and outside your home. A scratching post – particularly for an indoor cat – will encourage them to scratch their claws somewhere more acceptable than your sofa! If you plan to let them outside, consider using a reflective quick-release collar to make them more visible when they’re out on the prowl at night.

Cats are good at finding “unapproved toys” around the house, in spite of what I do to hide things.
Same problem for us! And it’s amazing what they sometimes think is a toy. ?

Cat proof a house? It’s tons easier to toddler proof one. And more logical. Thankfully, toddlers can’t balance on the tops of doors!
