CAT ADVOCATE, by Mollie Hunt
There is a fine line
between life and death
in the cat world.
Homeless or rescue,
feral or lost or found.
It all has to do with
having an advocate,
someone who speaks for you.
Someone who doesn’t speak in meows.
We are those. (them, they?)
We rise each morning to save cats.
We volunteer at shelters;
trap, neuter, and return;
search disaster zones.
We foster and heal,
love and comfort and clean.
We do it,
not because we are kind
(though we are kind),
not because we are paid
(we are often the ones who pay).
Not because we are better than anyone else,
but because
cats need us.
About Mollie Hunt:
Mollie is the author of the Crazy Cat Lady cozy mystery series, featuring Lynley Cannon, a sixty-something cat shelter volunteer who finds more trouble than a cat in catnip. Mollie is a member of the Oregon Writers’ Colony, Sisters in Crime, Willamette Writers, the Cat Writers’ Association, and the Northwest Independent Writers Association. Two of her short cat stories have been published in anthologies, one of which, The Dream Spinner, won the prestigious CWA Muse Medallion this year. Her poem, Tyler, also won a medallion.
Like Lynley, Mollie is a grateful shelter volunteer. She is a longtime volunteer for the Oregon Humane Society where she socializes sad, fearful, and behavior-challenged cats. She also fosters sick and elderly cats in her home. In 2014, she had the privilege to work with cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy on a particularly thought-provoking case.

Love you, cat rescuer!
?
You, too!
Nowadays, due to the times that are lived, finding people dedicated to this work is not frequent. A special human side to give love to these cats.
Every little bit helps.
thank you for caring for cats
Thank you too!
?
AMEN to it all. I rescue
Thank you!
Such a great poem so meaningful.x????
I appreciate that.
Thank you for all your hard work on behalf of these kitties, Mollie!
I am only one of many.
If we can’t care for the small things in life, then we can never hope to care about and sort out the bigger issues. Which is strange because dealing with life’s smaller issues is really so easy. Well written and well said poetry.
