10-Day-Old Kittens Found in Bin Bag
Four tiny 10-day-old kittens, found in a bin bag, are now on the road to recovery thanks to Mayhew and their dedicated team of foster carers.
The kittens, named Teenie, Tiny, Titch and Smalls by Mayhew staff, were first discovered by a member of the public who noticed the black bin bag moving in Brent in North West London.
After finding the scared and tiny kittens inside, the member of the public immediately brought them to Mayhew, where they were alerted to the attention of our Animal Welfare Officers.
Our Vet Team were on hand to give the kittens a full check-up and our cattery team settled them into a cosy cabin in our kitten block where they could feel safe, settled and secure.
Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officer, Paul Grimes, said: “We can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been for these 10-day-old kittens to be abandoned in a bin bag. It’s worrying to think what would have happened to the kittens if they hadn’t been found so quickly.”
Since they were without their mother, Teenie, Tiny, Titch and Smalls needed round-the-clock specialist care, so two of our dedicated foster carers took on the task of hand-rearing them.
Mayhew’s Cat Welfare Coordinator, Georgina Disney, said: “As they are sadly without their mother, we needed to do everything that the mummy cat would usually do to ensure they grow into happy adult cats. Every three hours throughout the day and night our foster carers had to feed them with special veterinary-formulated kitten substitute milk. It is always best to have routine and stability and we usually keep the kittens with the same foster carer.”
“This is such a difficult and time-consuming job which involves a lot of close monitoring and specialist care, that’s why it can be dangerous for anyone to try and do it themselves, so we recommend always coming to us first. We recommend seeking a vet’s advice or call us for advice as in the hands of an inexperienced person, it could be life threatening for the kittens.”
“We are incredibly grateful for our experienced foster carers who Mayhew staff trained to help us to hand rear kittens, like Teenie, Tiny, Titch and Smalls.”
Once they are all old enough, they will be vaccinated and neutered and ready to find their purrfect forever home.
Our Animal Welfare Officers rescue and help hundreds of animals in need every year and actively work in the local community preventing animal welfare problems becoming crises and work extensively with vulnerable pet owners in society. Find out more about their work here by visiting our website www.themayhew.org and please consider a donation to help them help even more kittens such as Teenie, Tiny, Titch, and Smalls.
We are also looking for more dedicated foster carers to help us care for our animals. To find out more about fostering a Mayhew animal and to apply to become a foster carer, please visit www.themayhew.org
If one is male, Simone would adore having someone to mother…They are precious and good work to the one who rescued them and good work to Mayhew!
Thank you Lea 🙂
🙂
It’s awful that people do something as cruel as dumping kittens in a bin bag. Thank goodness for organisations like the Mayhew.
This was awful but thankfully they were found. If they didn’t want the kittens why didn’t they take the kittens to a shelter?
That is what I wonder each time there is a dumped kitten. 🙁

Indeed :;
Thank God for the kind person who noticed the cruel bin bag and found the time and the heart to save the kitties
Yes. God knows what would have happened overwise.
I hate people, except for those who will care for kittens and cats. Thanks to them!
<3
Poor wee things. So cruel to leave them like that. I don’t know what’s wrong with some people. Still, there’s plenty of other folk who are kind. I hope these little furries find themselves loving homes.
Mayhew is awesome so I’m sure if they’ve not already found homes they will shortly. 🙂
What is wrong with people? One day, as I was going into the cat shelter I worked at, I saw somebody dump a box a little ways down from the shelter. It was all taped up. As I got closer, a paw stuck out from one of the holes. It was a taped-up box of kittens.
How could someone that works at a shelter dump kittens or any animal? That’s absolutely horrible.
I think Willow meant that on her way to he shelter she works in she saw someone unrelated doing that.
Sorry for the misinterpretation.?
Haha no problem happens. 🙂
?
It wasn’t someone who worked at the shelter. It was a random bunch of people. These people were dumping the box of unwanted kittens at the shelter.
OK. thanks for clearing that up. Sorry for the misinterpretation when I read it. Still horrible they were dumped.
I know, right. I have to do this before work so it was probably pretty early when I posted that comment. LOL. and yes, horrible, but at least I happened to investigate the box…it was in June , in Florida…at least 90 degrees Fahrenheit…
If I understood the article they were saved-right?
I witnessed this on the way into work, and went in to get my co-workers to help me move the box inside after investigating and realizing the kittens were inside. When I went to look at the box, I saw a paw poke out. The kitties were okay after some TLC and recuperation time.
thankfully they were saved
Don’t want to imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t found them….
Yeah, probably not a good idea…but they were saved!
🙁 that is horrible.
Sorry, I wrote that early in the morning…but I think you knew what I meant. The outcome would not have been good, but good thing I’m the nosy, curious type.
Mo problem! I know the feeling of comments early in the morning haha xD
Aww! They are so cute, and I would take one IF Midnight was a little more friendly to other cats. Shadow too; any cat in this house is an intrusion on his territory. I hope the best for them and wish them a happy kitty life.

Thank you Grace! 🙂
Nearly all kittens dumped like this come from cas mothers whose owners are too lazy to get them spayed. I wish there was some way to reach these people but it seems impossible. Thank heaven for the observant savior of these poor kittens.
The problem is that many people don’t know how early a female cat can get pregnant. People are always shocked when I tell them they can get pregnant at the age of six months!
Poor little Kittens!
i hate humans who dump animals. pure evil!
:/ yep
Does Renegade know that you only reference two cats next to your picture?
That will have to be updated before he reads it lol
The dumping of animals is so sad 🙁
Indeed 🙁
