2017 ‘Street Cats’ photography competition winning image – photographed by Igor Taranenko from the Ukraine
“Almost all of the cats in my photographs are the inhabitants of the streets of my hometown in the Crimea, in Yalta. I find it difficult to say anything detailed about their lives, as many of them I saw only once. The only thing I can say is that in Yalta there are lots of people who feed outdoor cats, pour clean water into bowls for them and find them shelter in the winter.”
The judges could not resist this cat’s eyes and the colour highlights which draw the face out of the picture.
Igor’s winning image features in the 2018 Street Cats Calendar which will be sold to raise funds for International Cat Care’s cat welfare work.

The cat has beautiful eyes. The photo captured a great moment.
beautiful eyes!
He’s a beautiful!
Beautiful photos. I tried to order the calendar but it said my Pay Pal account was closed? Then i tried calling and it said this number has been disconnected? How do i buy calendar?
PS I would like to “talk” to the Ukranian photographer. My grandfather was from Kiev which I heard was part of Russia at one time. Could you have him emal me back? Love the photos and I really want the calendar. Having trouble ordering.
For what it’s worth, my client whose mom emigrated from Ukraine told me that Ukrainian nationals want people to simply call the country “Ukraine” rather than “*the* Ukraine.” Because the prefix “the” makes the country sound like a part of something — as the Russians would like it to be — instead of its own nation. Like we say “the” Midwest, etc. in the US. The Rus came down from the North and occupied Ukraine which was already its own country, they tell me. (Mama is still alive and kicking and comes to my house sometimes with her daughter, and says to all my cats: “Kichu, kichu!!” Ukrainian for “kitty!”)
I can’t wait to receive my calendar as all the photos are amazing they speak so many words.x?????
