A Visit to the Brooklyn Cat Café, Saturday, September 3, 2016
I became friends with Marc and Iain through Katzenworld. They posted several of my poems on Purrsday Poetry. Since Marc and Iain had Brooklyn on their itinerary, I figured why not go to the Brooklyn Cat Café first (around 11 a.m.) before heading over to the Park Plaza Restaurant for lunch and poetry. Both places were within walking distance. I run the Brownstone Poets Reading series and had Steve Dalachinsky, Yuko Otomo, and Mike Jurkovic as the featured poets. The reading was starting at 2:30 p.m. We would have plenty of time to partake in the “purring and head bumping” therapy.
We filled out the required waiver. Once done, it was time to interact with the kitties. The morning hours were best. The café wasn’t crowded, and we didn’t need to have reservations. Marc, Iain, and I had a field day photographing the felines. The kitties were friendly and most loved being divas. No wonder cats rule the Internet!
Marc and Iain gave some catnip samples to the café volunteers, as well as several iconic Katzenworld key chains. The kitties approved the colorful catnip bags. One fur baby rolled from side to side, hugging the pillow-like bag.
The Cat Exercise Wheel wasn’t occupied. It took a while to convince the local Bengal to demonstrate how cats workout without going to the gym. The resident cats were their own bosses, and we humans were there to serve and enjoy their antics.
Upon our exit, we paid the five-dollar fee for a half an hour of “purring and head bumping” therapy—a real bargain!
Marc and Iain are natural cat whisperers. I’m still a work in progress. Hopefully, things will change with my building’s management. I’d love to adopt a kitty companion. I need cat therapy 24/7!
These pictures are worth more than a thousand words. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since Marc and Iain came to visit me in Brooklyn. It was so much fun!
The Brooklyn Cat Café focuses on rescue and adoption, not food service. Don’t expect to be sipping a cappuccino or latte at a table. The place is small, but large enough for the cats to roam. Reservations are encouraged, especially in the afternoon.

Delightful. It has been years since I lived in Brooklyn but had there been such a paradise… Well done you. As for the therapy (I am a therapist) I usually call it F.F.T.T. or Feline Focus Training and Therapy.
Love from Colette, Simone and our human typist. http://lesdeuxdivasmavieenrose.wordpress.com
thank you Léa
My pleasure. Some very good friends are traveling to N.Y.C. in October, I will tell them about the cafe and perhaps they can get photos for the blog?
I need to visit this place the next time I’m in New York!
Great post: reblogged!
thank you gunroswell
So there is a Heaven on Earth…
Awwwwwhhhhhh, looking forward to a cat lounge opening soon in a neighbourhood near me. Great red t-shirt. By the way. Cheers,H
As someone lucky enough to show Marc and Iain my favorite city, I understand your delight at spending time with them.
And all those lovely kitties! Yum….no cappuccino needed
What a great place to visit! Maybe one day we’ll get one in Florida
There is a cat cafe in Orlando! 🙂 We are actually due to write about that one.
That looks like a fun place to visit. I have been to the Meow Parlour, but this one looks better. I brought toys to the Meow Parlour and a worker accepted them, but looked at me like I was trying to poison the cats or something. That is cool you got to see the cats enjoy their nip.
very cute!
