Hi everyone,
Today we’ve once again teamed up with our friends from petco to provide you with another one of their infographic series.
Cat lovers would do almost anything for their pets. They buy them special toys—even houses. They get them regular care at a favorite veterinarian. Scratching towers? Check. They find snuggle-friendly beds so their felines can rest in preferred spots.
The same consideration comes when owners consider what food to buy for their pets—and what wet food would be best for their cat’s health and well-being. That’s because not all wet food is the same—it differs in texture and flavor, among other things.
One of the most popular reasons for giving wet food to cats is that it boosts hydration. But if your cat has trouble getting enough to drink, even with wet food, there are options to help. For starters, have multiple water bowls, and give them a thorough cleaning on a regular basis. Actually, a drinking fountain—which creates a moving stream of water—may attract cats. And you can also simply add extra water to wet food to boost hydration levels.

My cats all drink regularly from their fountain. I have a ceramic one since Mi Sun is prone to acne. Another benefit to getting them drinking from a fountain is you can look for signs of health problems. If they are drinking normally but not producing much urine or drinking a lot as they might with diabetes it’s much easier to see. The fountains also filter the water so it helps withhard water that might taste funny. Another great post and infographic .Thanks.
Glad you liked it! And yes we’ve got a number of fountains at home. 🙂

Thank you very much 🙂
All the water fountains I bought were great at first but stopped working after a few months, even though I was very careful about maintenance. I read somewhere that locating the water bowl away from the wet or dry food bowls was a good idea. I can’t remember why, though. But I definitely think it works. So multiple water dishes is probably good too.
Cats have the instinct that if there is food near water that the water might be fouled. Basically because food can go off and bacteria can build up in the water.
As for fountains the pumps often wear out and usually you can buy a cheap replacement pump from any fish shop as they are the same as För fish tanks.
That is very useful information- thanks very much!
Glad you found it useful. 🙂
Neither of my cats like wet food – they eat it under sufferance when we offer it – so they are on dry food only most days. We, therefore, bought them a water fountain. That way they can drink whenever they want and however much they want. I found that cats drink far more water than we might assume.
Great information! It’s especially relevant for cats with recurrent lower urinary tract problems for example cystitis, a condition which can result from stress!
Monkey is actually very good about drinking water. When we got her as a kitten, we put a small bowl of water up beside her food. She never touched that one. Instead, she has always drunk out of the three bowls we have for the dog. One at each end of the house and one on the patio. All are kept clean every day and filled with fresh water as needed. She eats wet food that is flaked and moist. She will not touch the minced kind no matter what brand. We have found one that is real flaked fish (she mostly likes the tuna ones that have a “gravy” and other healthy additions).
Great post and very important information! Thanks

Good information.
I have an extra water bowl near the bathroom as well as the kitchen. A lady who works at a cat rescue place once told me that it’s good to have an extra bowl in the bathroom or as close to as you can (I don’t have mine in the bathroom as it kept getting knocked over by clumsy humans!) because they’re attracted to the water in that room, i.e. taps etc. How true that is, I don’t know but it certainly seems to work for my cats and my friend’s cat also. My two eat a mixture of both wet and dry.
Thanks for sharing your experience. 🙂
Started feeding more wet food at the vet’s recommendation and added a drinking fountain as well as the regular water bowl. >^..^<
🙂 excellent

Interesting And Informative. Liked Your Visuals.
My cat likes to swish the water into her food after we put wet cat food in her dish. We wash her dish out once a week.

Our kitties love their water fountains. They have 2 different types, one plastic and one stainless steel. The water flows differently from tthem too.
They also have a wide, shallow bowl for water, so they can drink from this without catching their whiskers. All seven seem to drink very well thankfully. The fountains made a huge difference to the 3 cats we had when we bought the first one.
We have two fountains and a still water bowl from tourus or something like that.
