In honor of the oh-so-adorable, weekly Tummy Rub Tuesday feature on Katzenworld, your Friday Art Cat shows her soft, white belly. But it’s not for petting!
It is a rare kitty who actually wants you to stroke the tummy. A cat will roll over and show its belly to demonstrate that it trusts you, and that it is relaxed. However, most cats find it offensive for you to, then, violate this confidence by invading exposed belly space. You might receive bites, or a shredded hand for doing so, even from this sweet-looking Friday Art Cat.
For an informative article with video description of this and other common cat behaviors check out Why your cat claws and bites you when you rub its tummy.

My old cats love to get tummy rubs by me, not from others.
Well, it’s not nice if strangers touch the belly!
nice painting, mine doesn’t mind too, but from the chest up, if he doesn’t like, he won’t bite, just roll back and crouch…and let himself pat and purr….:)
🙂 I have a cat who is the same. Chest up, please!
My Cloud has the softest fur (one reason for his name) and a beautiful white tummy. He will allow a brief rub but I don’t push my luck, even at eight he’s a very energetic boy.
The bellies are sooooo tempting! 🙂
Such a beautiful painting. My cat would come out for a belly rub but only when we were alone.
I LOVE this picture! It reminds me so much of my cat, Cino. She does actually like it if I rub her tummy and even do tummy kisses, like you do with a baby. 🙂
So sweet… 🙂 I’m glad you like the picture, and thanks for sharing about Cino.
Yes, very nice painting, love it! Also my cat loves belly rub.
Great article. Thanks
Thanks, Paul!

For me, it’s the soft fluffy paws that are my weakness!
Dangerous! But, I do love a squishy toe bean.
They’re so soft and pink!

Thanks so much!
tummy rub caturday <3

I usually get away with rubbing my face on Jamimas exposed belly. If I’m quick and careful. She lets me.
🙂 You like living on the edge!

Beautiful painting, Carol!
Thank you so much! 🙂
Love the painting Carol and it demonstrates your point perfectly. When a cat exposes it’s belly in front of us, it’s not usually inviting us to give it a good stroke, and it’s up to us owners to recognise and respect our cats preferences for the different types of physical interaction!
Thanks!
