Please forgive me for copying a post I did on my own blog recently, but I thought it was too cute not to share.
Here is the latest photograph of our beautiful Chai. My husband and I had been working in the kitchen preparing dinner for Chubby our pig, when I popped my head around the corner. There at the top of the stairs was Chai, backlit by the late afternoon sun. I could already hear the other cats galloping around downstairs and knew instinctively that I didn’t have long. I yelled to my other half to keep Chai’s attention, while I literally ran to the study to grab the camera. Pulling off the case and lens cap as I returned, I had two seconds to grab one shot before Buddy and a few other kittens hurtled up the stairs and swept her away. I put the camera in a safe place and we went outside to feed Chubby and the llamas before cleaning the field shelter. I had no idea if the image would be usable and didn’t get the chance to look at it again until all the animals were done and we had eaten our own dinner. Only then did a smile spread across my face as I realised I had caught her at just the right moment.
Chai suits backlighting – I’ve photographed her this way before. I love how the light catches her whiskers and brings out the warmth in her ears. There was just enough reflected light to bring out the detail in her face and I simply adore how her head is slightly turned to one side. By that time she could probably see Buddy and Co. zooming through the front room and starting to head up the hall. There is always a slight delay at this junction as the cats don’t corner well on our bare floorboards and they often resemble cartoon characters, with their legs scrabbling hard while they make little forward progress.
Chai was found slowly dying in a park in Romania as a ten week old kitten. Someone had cut her all over and slit her throat before breaking both her front legs. Even now, I only have to look at her sweet little face for tears to spring to my eyes. I simply cannot understand such cruelty, but I am grateful she was found that night by a neighbour of my rescuer friend. She was rushed to an emergency vet where she started on the very long road to recovery. I said if she survived, then we would adopt her and so began all the updates, photographs and videos that we were to receive over the next few months. I cried to see all the treatments she had to endure. I laughed at her antics with her friends Foxy and DeeDee and I winced to see her jumping around on her rapidly healing front legs. (Our vet was to inform us later that broken bones in kittens heal at lightening speed, so maybe I shouldn’t have worried so much).
With thanks to my dear rescuer friend who has allowed me to post a link of some video that she took of the three kittens at the time. Chai can be seen galloping around wearing what we referred to as her “helmet” and with two legs still bandaged. It’s one of the happiest videos I have ever seen. We adopted all three girls.
Poor little baby, so pleased you rescued all three. Chai is a beautiful cat!
She is probably more beautiful inside than out if you get my meaning 🙂
What a lovely ending for Chai after a horrific start.?
She deserved a happy ending. They all do of course, but it doesn’t always end the way it should 🙁
I’m so glad there’s a happy ending to this story. She certainly had a rough start.
You would never know it to meet her. She is one of the happiest cats we have ever had 🙂
That’s wonderful!
MUCHAS GRACIAS POR SALVAR LA VIDA DE LOS GATOS!!!!

De nada. We did nothing. It was all down to her rescuer in Romania 🙂
What a beauty!
Thank you. I’ll tell her in a minute 🙂
Sweet little darling!
Soo happy to hear the happy ending.
Oh my goodness! What a traumatic and horrible start in life she had. I am so glad you found each other and that she has such a happy life now. Chai is beautiful.
I wish I could say this is rare in Eastern Europe, but of our seven rescues from there, Chai isn’t the only one. They are however, the happiest and most loving bunch of cats we have ever known. I can hear them playing upstairs as I type… 🙂
That’s so awful. I’m so glad you shower them with love.
Beautiful photo.
Thank you 🙂
This is precious. I think Chai was secretly given much more than nine lives….what a little doll!
I hadn’t thought of it like that before, but it’s something I’m going to remember from now on 🙂
We love happy endings!
Have a super Wednesday…

What a heart-warming story. She’s a drop-dead gorgeous little cat.
All cats are gorgeous, aren’t they? Chai is very special though 🙂
Reblogged this on Rattiesforeverworldpresscom.
Thank you very much! 🙂

There is a special place in hell for people who hurt animals. And a person who can rescue and nurture an injured cat back to such a happy place will live in our hearts forever.
The rescuers do an incredible job. I don’t think I could cope under the circumstances. They always need people to adopt though, so happy to help with that when we can 🙂
Why people do such things to animals is unimaginable. Thanks so much for rescuing her and the others. She is really a beautiful cat and I love the photo you caught of her.
I’ve just told her as she is currently sitting next to me on the study desk 🙂
Chai is so precious and beautiful. You are a kind and wonderful person to take care of her. Your fur babies are happy, thanks to your loving care. I just don’t understand why people can do such evil things to harm an innocent kitty or any animal. I have no words to describe how I feel. 🙁
Please don’t feel sad. I once read that for every person who does harm like this, there is an army of good people picking up the pieces 🙂
Chai does look great with backlight and so cute on the steps! hugs to all! <3
Hugs to you too! 🙂
She’s beautiful!
People can be cruel, but thankfully most people are way nicer and caring.
I think that’s very true and thank you 🙂
