Today we would like to introduce you to the book THE TRUE TAILS OF BAKER AND TAYLOR:The Library Cats Who Left Their Pawprints On a Small Town…And the World

When Jan Louch landed her dream job as a librarian at a library in a tiny town well south of Reno, Nevada, she had no way of knowing that the job — particularly the two Scottish Fold cats she “hired” to head up the Rodent Control Department in the early 1980s — would change her life while also raising the spirits of millions of people around the world.

She named the cats Baker and Taylor (after the library wholesaler who she dealt with on a daily basis), and after a few executives at Baker & Taylor offered to use them as company mascots and distributed posters featuring the cats, their fame quickly spread worldwide. Before long, fans were showing up at the library to meet the cats, people from all over the world wrote to request their “pawtograph” — Jan obliged them with a pawprint-shaped rubber stamp and a green inkpad — and a class of second graders in Ohio launched a fan club, all before the Internet had taken hold.
Away from the spotlight, few people knew how the cats were helping Jan to recover from a devastating divorce while also easing a rapidly growing town through the inevitable stresses and strains. And today, years after their deaths, the two cats with funny ears has helped Jan to achieve one of her lifelong goals: her first published book at the age of 84.

Lisa Rogak served as Jan’s co-author on the book; She is the author of numerous books about animals as well as a New York Times bestselling author of a couple of non-animal books.

They are adorable cats! Oliver has a bit of Scottish fold in his ancestory. Or so the vet and us think because of his traits and rounded face. It’s a little known fact that only a fraction of Scottish folds actually have the folded ears. =o
That’s the problem! A too little fraction, so these adorable cats are rare. And until now I could not find a stray Scottish Fold to adopt.

And you know in Japan many Scottish gold are abandoned in parks ?
I saw three on my recent trip. I wonder how easy it would be to get local rescue places to help re home one across the ocean… Would a uk cat understand them? After all they make nyan noises rather than meow haha xD
After working in publishing for 20+ years, I have to tell you that not just librarians will “get” those names. Baker & Taylor wholesales to libraries but they buy directly from publishers. The title really caught my eye. Looks like a great book … I’ll wait out the giveaway but will put it on my “to read” list so I don’t forget about it.

I note the ear design of a Scottish Fold is idea for hunting between shelves!
Dewey was the first one to have a book I believe – he passed away in 2006 at 19 years. The books were really great & there are many especially in the USA.
Actually there were! Here is link to Library cats database from around the world some of them don’t work but many of them are active. It is really cool, I found it after readying Dewey’s story many years ago & became a little obsessed with Library cats.
Hooray for Baker and Taylor ! Happy to know they were so well loved. I met two kitty’s today on a street in Paris. Just in front of the Opera. Their human played an interesting music box. They were actually napping but I said hello and scratched their ears. I hope it made them as happy as it did me xo B

I know it’s unbelievable… But so many cats get abandoned over there that some cat cafes only take in street cats and re home them
