When I took these pictures I figured I could use them to write a post about Lola pretending to be an iron. (Because she’s on the ironing board!) But when I looked back through the pictures I’d taken I realised I’d have to write about something else.
The thing is, in these pictures Lola looks very chubby. It looks like she has a double chin, big round cheeks, and a lot of extra fluff on her sides!
Really Lola is a fairly lithe cat. She’s long and lean, and has always been a bit on the skinny side. But sometimes when she’s lying or sitting in a certain way she just seems to double in weight! Which made me think that maybe these pictures don’t catch her best side.
Then again, she also looks very sweet. Like a big cuddly ball of fluff. Apparently with no legs either!
It’s fascinating how just being in a different position can make such a drastic change to her appearance.
Love,
Lady Joyful
Do your cats sit in positions that make them look fatter than they are? Or stretch out to look thinner? What’s your cat’s best side?
I’m exactly the same. Sometimes when people see me from a certain angle, it can look like I’m beginning to get a little chubby. That angle is from the front.
Ha, I think it happens to everyone 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
It is just where and how you look at her from- but she’s cute whereever you look at her from.
My cat feels heavy when we carry him but he has no tummy at least not one we can see. But when he walks he looks like one tall, slim cat with some hair.

Very true! I believe generally speaking body condition is assessed from a stood position, so if they look slim like that they are most likely a healthy weight 🙂 Thanks for commenting.
Mine is fluffy – and I have to brush her every day – hum not always ! I like to look at her walking – she looks so proud – and lovely – Hugs to your kittens, cats, my friends ! 🙂
Yours sounds darling! Thanks for commenting 🙂
Ha ha ha loved this idea…still looking for my lithe angle. Spike, on the other hand always looks great no matter which angle.
I just avoid being in front of the camera myself 😉 Thanks for commenting 🙂
Aww so cute! She’s like a cotton ball :). My cat used to lie flat on her back and all her ‘excess skin’ fell on both sides – that made her look a lot bigger than she was.
I hadn’t notice that! You’re right – she does 😀 Aw that sounds adorable 😉 Thanks for commenting 🙂
Fluffy and cuddly. A winning combination!
I completely agree! Thanks for commenting 🙂
Ah, but cats are really able to double their weight at their will. You can notice this when they are taking a nap on your tummy and do not want you to move. The tiniest cat can weigh a ton-
That’s very true, I’d not thought of that! Thanks for commenting 🙂
I’m not sure which side is Gwennie’s best side. All I know is there are days when I’ll ask her if she’s going to lay there like that all day. She’ll say, “No. In a minute I’m going switch sides.”
Haha, that’s brilliant! Thanks for commenting 🙂
You said she’s very long and thin. Perhaps when you compress all her limbs and extra skin she just… puffs up. ^.^ After all, she looks quite compact in these photos. *.* Is her tail the only part that’s black?! So adorable!
That could well be the case! She also has a couple of black marks on her flank, and black around her bottom! She is a very pretty girl 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
That is funny how the angle of the camera can make such a difference. She is very pretty.
Exactly 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
All the sides of my two beautiful feline girls are beautiful! Lola is very beautiful in this photo.
I don’t doubt it 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
Like the poem from my childhood:
Cats Sleep Fat and Walk Thin
Posted on July 9, 2008 by doublefrogywithatwist
Cats sleep fat and walk thin.
Cats, when they sleep, slump;
When they walk, pull in –
And where the plump’s been
There’s skin.
Cats walk thin….
Cats sleep fat.
They spread out comfort underneath them
Like a good mat….
A cat condenses.
He pulls in his tail to go under bridges,
And himself to go under fences….
When everyone else is just ready to go out,
The cat is just ready to come in.
He’s not where he’s been.
Cats sleep fat and walk thin.
Rosalie Moore
But I think she does a great iron imitation! 🙂
What a fabulous poem, thanks for sharing it! Oh yes, she’s a wonderful iron 😉 Thanks for commenting 🙂
How a cat sits suits their passing mood. Your girl looks like she is feeling FULL and relaxed on that ironing board!
My cats are lean. Sometimes I think they are too thin. However, I catch how they look when they are traveling across the DVDs, books, scaling the counters. Suddenly they are muscular HUNTERS. And when they are hunting – oh they PUFF up, especially the TAIL!
It’s all in the cat’s mood.
It’s fun, studying a cat’s mood/posture.

Oh yes it definitely is fun. You’re right – I’m fairly sure she’d just eaten before those pictures were taken. Thanks for commenting 🙂
I love her black tail, with the white body. My cat is spoiled and fat -i’m sure she has a double chin, although I haven’t thought about it to look. Her best side is well, I’d love to tell you but all she ever shows me is her tail end. For some reason, she thinks this is her best side -or under my chin. Funny girl!

Finally a good use of the ironing board. Lord knows mine never see’s daylight until I’m missing something from the pile.
I don’t think Lola looks chubby, actually to me, she looks angelic and pretty in that light. BTW, how many selfless should one take before you totally give up? Some of them are real stinkers, We definitely all have our better sides. HA!
Yeah, ours rarely comes out either but if it does there will soon be a cat on it!
I’m afraid I’m not the right person to ask about selfies – I tend to avoid being that side of the camera 😉 Thanks for commenting!
