Hello everyone,
We were over in Germany a short while ago visiting family and friends. Since our last visit to Hanover there’s been a development in the cafe scene: Northern Germany’s first Cat Cafe called “Stubentiger”. Opened in October, the name roughly translates as “living room tiger” and was the dream of owner Astrid Heyer, who wanted to share her “cat filled home” with other cat lovers. Today, we’d just like to give you a teaser of our visit. The cafe is located 10 minutes walk from Hannover City centre and was very easy to find with its eye-catching external branding.
Unlike many other cafes we’ve visited in the past, there didn’t seem to be huge number of cats in sight. That turned out not to be a bad thing at all. When we arrived the five resident felines, Hwere relaxing on various pieces of furniture dotted around the cafe (see below). Some were lounging on seats and sofas and others where ever they found comfy spot (and cats sure seem to be able to find one of these where ever they are).
We were in a group of seven and were seated very comfortably on the sofas. The cafe is very stylishly decorated and there were cat walk ways incorporated into picture frames showing prints of film classics with a cat themed make over. Everywhere we looked there were little hide-aways and ledges for the furry inhabitants to be as close or far away from the cafe customers as they feel.
The menu was typically German with a range of teas and coffees and delicious sounding cakes. Ordering was not easy with all the choice but we decided on something with the idea we could get a taste of each others cakes. The drinks were served in the Cafe unique Tiger design along with glass covers for the cakes to keep cat paws of human food. We were lucky enough to be given some cute complimentary cat cookies.
And just in case you thought it could;t have been any better, there is a cat themed gift section. The cat shaped milk jugs and salt and pepper sets in particular caught our eye.
We’ll certainly be heading back to StubenTiger when we return to Germany next year. Today’s post was just a little introduction. Look out for later post with a lot more pictures of the five felines who were very happy to pose for us.

Thank you and happy new year 🙂
I wished there was something like that here in Switzerland as well…
I am surprised there isn’t one yet! 🙁
Sounds like a gap to fill…. 😉
If you open one I’ll come and report on it. 😀

Thanks 🙂
We just got an official cat cafe in The Lower East Side of New York City! So glad these are becoming a thing.
Oh! What is the name of it? Is that the Meow Parlour or a different one?
It’s called Koneko. It’s very much styled after the original Japanese cat cafe’s… it’s on Clinton Street. The space is awesome!
Added to my NYC trip itinerary. 😀
I love the way each one I see is decorated differently!
Each one has its own charm. 🙂
Apparently Cat cafes are being opened in many places. I’ve never been in one though there is one in London. Funny enough because one of main fictional books characters is a cat and the author of “The Cat That Became a Footballer” I made him write a book about cat cafes though due to other commitments I haven’t published it yet.
There are actually 2 in London now. 😮 I have to go to the one I haven’t been to yet soon!
