Hi everyone,
Cats Protection has launched an awesome new way of rehoming poor kitties in need of forever homes today. Their new Pop-up homing centre is located in Mitcham and can be re-located when necessary. More details below. 🙂
PET POP-UP ENCOURAGES LONDON ANIMAL LOVERS TO ADOPT URBAN CATSTHE nation’s leading cat welfare charity is set to open its first pop-up homing centre to encourage London’s pet lovers to adopt a city cat.Cats Protection launched its first ‘transportable’ homing centre in Mitcham, South London, today Saturday July 25.
In just 10 weeks the charity transformed an empty warehouse into a fully-equipped rehoming centre – complete with conference room, veterinary facilities and dozens of ultra-modern spacious pens.Cats Protection chiefs will cut the ribbon at an official opening of the centre this Saturday and South London’s prospective adopters, volunteers and cat fosterers are being invited to tour the pens and see the cats (11am-4pm).London is home to an estimated 1.5million cats and the Mitcham centre is the charity’s first step in targeting urban areas identified as being of high need.
The pop up, which aims to find homes for up to 50 cats each month, is a groundbreaking project for the charity and the building model is set to be rolled out across other locations over the next five years.
Rosie Wheeler, Deputy Manager at Cats Protection Mitcham Homing Centre, said: “It’s so exciting to be involved in this project. There is so much potential for Cats Protection to grow through the Mitcham centre.
“There is some great work going on at Mitcham and we will be working with other organisations to ensure that we are here for the urban cat population. That is what it is all about after all; helping cats find loving homes.
“It’s really important to give these cats a second chance in life so we welcome anyone who would like to adopt or foster a cat to come down and visit us.”
Mitcham Homing Centre, which is located at Unit 3-4 Boundary Business Court, on Church Road, is part of a new trailblazing building programme by Cats Protection. The building model, which has been under construction for several years, is designed so that the centre’s internal structure can be ‘transported’ to another urban area of need if demand in Mitcham drops in the future. The centre is made up of pre-fabricated modular units, which were ‘slotted’ into the 7,500 square foot warehouse after being constructed offsite. If demand changes, the structure can be removed, loaded on to a lorry and transported to another area.As well as benefiting from a much quicker build, the programme has saved the charity hundreds of thousands of pounds – costing only a fifth of a regular rehoming centre build.
Ceva, the company behind cat welfare brand Feliway, contributed funds towards the cost of the Mitcham centre.
A Ceva spokesperson said: “Ceva are delighted to have contributed towards the build of the new Mitcham rehoming centre. Cat welfare is at the heart of Ceva, with our brand Feliway helping millions of cats deal with everyday stress.
“We are proud to work in partnership with the Cats Protection and help support the great work they do.”

This fascinating model may well set a new standard for helping not just cats, but all pets in need. Hopefully, we will see much, much more of this, in other countries.
Adorable

This is fantastic & a great take on the pop-up shop phenomena
Indeed! And cats protection is awesome. which is why part of my online shop profit goes to them. 😀
A portion of the royalties from my CATHOOD series also go to cat rescue shelters xx
😀
Such wonderful news! All of the kind hearts in the world who help our animal friends are cherished so much. Bless you all, and bless our furbabies too! xx
Thank you 😀
That is great to hear! Over in America we have all sorts of animal protection programs for animals who have been neglected, abused, and homeless. I love reading about how there are good programs for animals, such as cats, to make sure they have a safe place and hopefully, find them a good home.
Thank you! And yes I know some of your charities. 🙂
Good luck to them.
Thanks 🙂
Wonderful!
Thank you ^^
What a smart idea ! Purrs
I know! Wish I had time to go to the even but probably would have gone home with a few kittens. 😉
That’s fantastic….lucky kitties
Thanks 🙂
How nice??
Thanks 🙂
This is awesome!!
Thanks 🙂
This is awesome!!
I would love to see this kind of rehoming happen in Australia. I got my cat from the RSPCA and I can see that they are so inundated with animals, they could use the support of smaller centres. It would mean people didn’t have to drive a long distance to buy a rescued pet.
They should! It’s such a great idea. 🙂
