Hi everyone,
Today we are looking at the book The Cat’s Out of the Bag: Truth and Lies About Cats by Max Cryer. (See Cover below! Don’t you just love the little cats?)
We cannot get enough of cats: from ancient times they have occupied a special place in many different cultures around the world. They have also generated a fascinating array of words, expressions and observations, as well as poems, books, movies, cartoons and artworks. In this witty and entertaining book, Max Cryer celebrates cats and all they have given to us. He describes the many words and expressions they have inspired, from ‘catnip’ and ‘catwalk’ to ‘the cat’s whiskers’ and ‘raining cats and dogs’, as well as famous cat characters like Garfield, Felix the Cat, The Cat in the Hat and Puss in Boots, songs as varied as ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ and ‘The Cats’ Duet’, and poems like ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ and ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’. The cats owned by famous celebrities are described, from Elizabeth Taylor’s ‘Jeepers Creepers’ to Dr Johnson’s ‘Hodge’. In other chapters he explores cats’ attributes, the strength of their night vision and sense of smell, their sleep requirements, life expectancy and much more. Surprising facts – and spurious fictions – can be found on almost every page.Everything you ever wanted to know about cats can be enjoyed in this magnificent compendium of a book. It is a delight from beginning to end to be read with one on your lap.
Over-all verdict?
This book is just astonishing! The author spent a tremendous amount of time to collect facts about our cats. From fun facts about celebrity cats such as Garfield to educative information you will find it all! The last paragraph of the publisher’s website pretty much sums it up for us! This book truly includes everything you ever wanted to know about cats. 😀
Just some examples of the books content below:
- Cat – ever wondered how to say this in other languages? You will find out in this book. 😀
- Did you know that there is a floating cat shelter on this planet? Can you guess where? 😉
- Indoor only cats in Switzerland MUST have a companion cat by LAW (I had no idea until reading this book!)
So all in all a book well worth a read! 🙂

Sounds really interesting! My cousin, slave to two cats, might get one for her birthday.

I wish I had the time to read this. I think it would be an excellent read. Thanks for posting and sharing!
You are welcome 🙂
I must get this book.
It is a lot of fun. 🙂
Sounds good! (Presently I’m reading “How to Paint a Cat” by Rebecca M. Hale.) ‘Look forward to reading that one. Maybe he can give me some insight. A lot of times Joey comes up to me to meow something that’s on his mind, and I know it has nothing to do with food, pain or illness, etc. But he wants to tell me things that I just sometimes wish I’d new. Ah … the answer to that might be a pet video camera! 🙂
Pet video camera!!! I want one haha xd
