Hi everyone,
We found these super cute cartoons how worldwide langues spell the sound cats make. Just had to share it with you! 😀
We hope you liked these as much as we did. 🙂 *Nyan*
Photo credit goes out to the wonderful James Chapman from Chapmangamo @ Tumblr!
He also sells these as books and posters. The cat one is available as A3 poster for £6 (approx 10 USD) here.
And his entire animal noise book collection here. Available as standard version for £6 or £10 for the hand signed and drawn version.
Thanks,
Marc

i had to share this. Cat linguistics! 😀 in Hungarian: Miau, Nyiau. The verb for making cat sound: Nyávog. So its kind of a mix between european and asian cats. :3
The spanish sound is the german cat sound, too!
Hehe. True! ^^
Birds of the same species have dialects where the song of the species in one geographic area sing a variation of the same song in another. Horned larks in my state sound a lot different a couple hours’ drive north of me, to a degree I didn’t recognize the song the first time I heard it.
That said, I wonder if cats have dialects…?
Yes, a very interesting question.. I think that cats do have dialects. My Lola does not meow like the rest of the gang. She is very vocal but does sound like a cross between a rusty fence and the Road Runner. A touch of Siamese perhaps?
A question for parents of multiple cats: Do you notice of difference in meows?
Yes we do! Oliver prruts and hardly ever meows (he has a very high pitched voice and seems embarassed about it) Nubia sounds like she is trying to inmitate human speech which sounds like a moooaaarrrowwww LOL
I am sure they do have dialects depending on the area. It would be interesting to see how those cats would interact. 😀
Charming story — made me want to “ron ron”!
Haha 🙂 thank you and happy new year
I miauw, but Granny says, we all have our own accent 😀 Pawkisses for a Happy New Year 🙂 <3
Yep nubia sounds more like a moooaeroar LOL
