Hi everyone,
Today’s guest post comes from Irina and is about her:
Fantasy Art. Fantasy Cats.
Hello! Let me introduce myself. My name is Irina and I am a crazy cat lady. I am! And always have been. As long as I can remember, I have always had cats. And I remember all of them too, every single one: what they looked like, what their personalities were like, who was quiet and lazy and who was mischievous and crazy.
Of course, my love spread everywhere. I like watching cat cartoons, reading cat books and articles and blogs and I started my cat collection some years ago.
It’s quite a chore to dust them all!
Naturally, this passion had to manifest itself in my art sooner or later. I worked with oils for many years but mainly painted landscapes. At some point I felt that I wanted to try a different medium (acrylics) – and a different subject. And what subject could be better than cats?!
But I didn’t want to be one of the many artists that paint conventional portraits of pets. Oh, don’t get me wrong, there are many wonderful cat pictures out there and I love and admire many of them! I just wanted mine to be… well, different.
So, I decided to paint MY cats in this stylized, extravagant, special way where I try to convey the personalities of the cats rather than just their exterior.
I called these paintings “The Fantasy Cats series.”
Here are some of them:
“Sleeping Cat in Gold” This cat is resting peacefully, he is very happy with his life.
“Two Cheerful Cats” These cats are joyful and a little inquisitive under the sun.
“Poised Cat in Red” She is serene and confident.
“Cool Cat in Burgundy” He is beautiful and he knows it!
My paintings are in various colour palettes, various sizes but in all of them I tried, as best as I could, to express my love and admiration for these wonderful animals.
“Kitty Family” These cats were painted as a set of 4. They are similar in style but very different in character.
You can look (and buy) at my paintings here, in my online shop: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/NaturelandsAndCo

For all you Crazy Cat Ladies everywhere a bit of a fest… I have had one domesticated cat when I was a teenager but several feral cats who have adopted me and graced me with their presence and protection. Some are born to be wild and maintain a certain degree of aloofness but still give affection and love extra food and a warm box to sleep in on the porch in the winter months. When we adopt our next puppy I intend to get a kitten to keep them company to provide us with the type of care and attention only a feline can deliver.
I had to do a double take there!! That first picture looks so like my Rory 🙂
I just LOVE the artwork!! Wonderful! I think those links will be forwarded to my daughters as possible xmas presents for me 🙂
You should! I had her draw my two cats and I love the paintings :). Will post about them at some point ^^
Such beautiful paintings. You can’t help but smile when you look at one.
^^ indeed
I love the artwork. It is beautiful and looks vintage- my favorite.
I LOVE THE Upsided down Tortie bacause Calico and Tortoise shell CATS are just my very favorite cats. They are nuts and inbred (all female, of course) and I just love that crazy Calico/Tortie personality!! With that said, you ART is whimsical and you are very gifted. When my cat turned 17, I realized I have NO photos of her (never had a digital camera or phone), so I commissioned a local artist. I loved her work, but it did not LOOK LIKE THE ACTUAL CAT.
Thank you :D. I got my two drawn by her 🙂
Your cats have both personality and character. I l.o.v.e. my cats too. <3 <3
Thank you <3
You are welcome. Cat lovers everywhere, UNITE. <3 <3
Continuing: As I wanted the actual cat, I hired a professional pet photographer who did a photo shoot. Now I have a large framed portrait and Story Board with several images of my cat. I also have a 5X7 size “wedding quality” photo book of about 30 of the very best photos. My cat has finally been memorialized and she has ALSO made it to the digital wors, though I have not!! LOL Great Work!!!
Finally, you are a FANTASTIC ARTIST!!! I love your work! ~SAW
