You may remember our recent tips and advice about hairballs which can be found here and how high quality cat food can help prevent hairballs from this. Following on from this we decided to get some Burns cat food and give it a test! So today Today we are going to look at their “Original Cat” range.

From the start our cats LOVED it even when it was still in the packaging LOL.
As you can see both Oli and Nubes were eager to get into the bag before we had a chance to open it 🙂
They were crunching away for ages on this and I shall ask them for their approval to upload a video I took of this at a later date! But below are some pictures of them crunching away.
As always Nubes didn’t really care that she was meant to eat from the pink fish bowl LOL.
As per Burns the cat food promises the following benefits for your cats:

From our two weeks trial so far we can certainly confirm that both of our cats daily toilet act has been far more pleasant than before. Not as smelly as on other foods and not once did we find a none solid present. (I am sure you all encountered this unpleasant business with cheaper high in cereal foods before 😉 )
Now let us look at the ingredients and nutritional value of the food (We have used the Chicken version for this particular part of the review):
Ingredients:
Brown Rice (46%), Chicken Meal (37%), Maize, Chicken Fat, Chicken Livers, Seaweed, Vitamins & Minerals.
For those of you that think why should a cat food contain Rice or carbohydrates in general think about the supermarket brands and other cheaper cat food brands that put cereals as the first ingredients in their dry food instead. Brown Rice is much healthier not just for cats but also for us (Yes we too should swap away from cereal to Brown rice! :D). If you are looking for carbohydrate free food – wet food would be a better choice.

We especially like the fact this cat food is not too high in fats as often other dry foods are high in carbohydrates content, not so high in protein and very high in fat so this one is on the top of our list!

Lastly lets look at the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Low fat
- High in protein
- Doesn’t contain cereals (Yes it contains Brown rice instead but as mentioned before this is a far healthier alternative for crunchies as it is easier on the digestive system.)
- Food is not too small but not too big and therefore suitable for smaller and larger cats
- Not too expensive on the budget!
Cons:
- The one and only thing we can fault is the packaging. It would be better if you could reseal it for longer freshness, but this is nothing you can’t fix if you have a crunchy container around! 😀
