Hello everyone,
It’s time for our first product review!
I purchased a few trial bags of Smilla catfood from zooplus.co.uk and the first one we tried on our cats today was the Adult Beef dry cat food.
As you can see on the picture Oli couldn’t even wait for me to open the package to get into it!!!
Packaging:
Pro:
- The packaging is clearly labelled in English, German and French so you will find the information you need on the packaging.
- Has clear instruction on how much to feed your cats
- Bag can be resealed (if you open it correctly – see below!)
Con:
- While the packaging has a vary nice re-sealing option it is unfortunately not exactly clear how it works until you open your first bag! While usually you cut open your bags this one has a plastic strip accross what is meant to be the access and re-seal option for your bag of food! Bottom line: Don’t cut it! Pull off the plastic strip accross the opening to ensure you can re-seal the bag.
Food Content:
- Analaytic breakdown
Protein 32.0 %
Fat 15.0 %
Fibre 15.0 %
Ash 3.0 %
Phosphorus 1.0 %
Magnesium 0.7 %
Pottasium 0.3%
Sodium 0.3%
- Actual Content:
Pro: 35% meat content which is quite high for a pet food at this good price
Con: If you look closely even though this is marked as beef food it contains 20% poultry meat. Even though this hasn’t bothered the cats and they still scoffed it up!
Food properties:
As quoted from zooplus (and the packaging for that matter):
- With vitamins A and E for powerful sight and beautiful skin
- For effective dental hygiene with special kibble shape and surface
- With high quality proteins to support organ functions
- With vegetable fibres for optimal hairball processing
- High digestibility for ideal nutrient absorption
- With taurine for strong cardiac function and sight
- With yucca extracts to reduce stool odour
- With linseed as a natural source of omega-3 and -6 fatty acids
The food itself are nice medium sized pellets this should make it easy for small and medium cats to eat them while still giving the tooth cleaning benefit as they will have to crunch them. Larger cats on the other hand may just scoff them up as they are not the biggest cat crunchies on the market.
Price:
The usual price on zooplus.co.uk is usually 1kg for £2.90, 4kg for £9.90 or 10kg for £22.90 as there isn’t a significant price difference between the 4kg and 10kg bag I personally would recommend ordering different flavours of the 4kg variant as this will mean they stay fresher longer and will give your cat a variety of flavours.
One thing to point out is that Zooplus has currently got a special offer there if you purchase 2 bags of 4kg you will get the third one for free. The special offer for this free pack is £19.80 which works out as £1.65 per kilogram instead of the usual £2 something making this an absolute bargain deal that you shouldn’t miss out on! To access the deal please click on this link.
Now for the practical test! How did our cats react to the crunchies? Well they may sometimes be rather picky BUT they went for these immediately. In fact both of them were trying to get their head in the same bowl at the same time so these get plus point for that:
Final word:
This is most certainly one of the better value foods out there and considering both of our picky cats liked it you should have an easy time for your cat to accept the food! Packaging wise if you don’t do the mistake I did you will have a great re-seal method on the bag. 🙂
Thanks for reading everyone and I hope you found this useful!
First of all I would like to say awesome blog!
I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and
clear your mind prior to writing. I’ve had a tough time clearing
my mind in getting my ideas out. I do enjoy writing however it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost simply just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any ideas or hints? Many thanks!
Hey Napoleon – apologies for some reason wordpress moved this to spam :O
It is true that sometimes it can take a while to come up with something. What I find helps me most is that once I start going to prepare loads of lil draft snippits which I can work out completly at a later point. It’s almost like getting a few story boards in form of pictures or ideas ready and re-visit them a few days later to properly write them.
Thanks,
Marc
